In a recent exclusive interview with Mark Fu from the specialized media outlet AgroPages, our President, José Perdomo, analyzed the challenges that defined 2025 and what the industry can expect for 2026.

"Regulations will be decisive for the future of agriculture and the crop protection industry. CropLife Latin America will continue to promote access to innovation, sustainable practices, and science-based regulatory frameworks," stated Perdomo

He emphasized that the sector's resilience is no coincidence, but rather the result of innovation and proactive risk management across five fundamental pillars:

  • Regulatory Alert: 2026 is expected to face "turbulence" due to new EU requirements regarding Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs).
  • Climate Resilience: Despite extreme weather events across the region, Latin American exports reached record levels thanks to seed technology and Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
  • Market Reconfiguration: The biologicals boom and the "China factor" are setting the pace. Brazil leads the trend with a historic record of 162 biological products approved in 2025.
  • Sustainability in Figures: The CampoLimpio and CuidAgro programs recovered more than 90,000 tons of empty containers and trained nearly one million people over the past year.
  • Strategic Alliances: The Sustainable Pesticide Management Framework (SPMF) also known as Agricultura Sostenible en Acción pilots in Chile, Colombia, and Guatemala demonstrate how public-private partnerships accelerate field innovation.

Looking ahead to 2026, European regulatory policies, international trade rules, and digital adoption will continue to shape the sector, Perdomo concluded.
